Mr. Joseph H (Buck). Penrose Jr. has been a long time supporter of HPHA and in recent years has made large donations comprised of items and documents for our collection and equipment for our use or sale.
HPHA is sad to report the passing of Mr. Penrose on Sept. 17, 2015.
Joseph H (Buck) Penrose Jr, whose great grandfather Abel Penrose lived at Graeme Park recently made a very generous donation of artifacts, documents, photos, furniture and equipment to HPHA.
Some items that were part of the donation such as the 1914 Otto Engine and others were sold by HPHA with the proceeds going toward the continuing restoration of the Penrose Strawbridge House.
We also found some real treasures among the documents Mr. Penrose gave us including the original 1718 Samuel Carpenter Indenture in which Mr. Carpenter's Horsham property is distributed to his wife and children after his death. We have had this document restored and framed. It was on loan for display at the Horsham Library and is now on display in our museum.
Other items of interest are the 1865 Penrose Indenture in which Abel Penrose purchased Graeme Park from his siblings after their mother's passing,
We have not researched or even opened all that Mr. Penrose has given us so we hope to find even more interesting things. But in the meantime, a big thank you to Mr. Penrose.
