HPHA Membership

The mission of the Horsham Preservation and Historical Association (HPHA) is to identify, study, preserve and protect the historical heritage, buildings, land and artifacts of the Horsham area in a manner that is accessible to the public. HPHA has been in existence since 1997 and incorporated since 1998.

We are a community benefit group with most members living in Horsham, PA.

Horsham is in the middle of an area rich in history dating back to colonial times. The Revolutionary Army camped at a number of nearby locations and major battles were fought in the area. Horsham, itself, evolved from a land grant made by William Penn to a small number of people, most notable Samuel Carpenter. We have the only existing home of a colonial governor at Graeme Park. The Keith House is a National Historic Landmark and several other local locations are on the National Register of Historic Places. In more modern times we were the home to Pitcairn Aviation and later the Willow Grove Naval Air Station.

One of our primary projects has been researching and maintaining the c1721 Penrose-Strawbridge House under a lease with the owner, Horsham Township. This home probably has the oldest, extant fabric from Sir William Keith's original Fountain Low Plantation and may have been involved in his attempt to build a brewery/distillery at this site. HPHA has been restoring this structure and others on the site since 2003.

Other programs include a developing a library of Horsham area documents, deeds, maps, books and correspondence.

Stone archway on the north side of the barn. This very similar to arches found on Scottish distilleries so this may have been part of a distillery here
