P-S 1735 Barn

P-S 1735 Barn

1735 Barn

Foundation walls of what is believed to be the remains of a barn dating to 1735-37. This barn appears on a drawing from 1737 found with documents requesting that Governor Road be expanded from Horsham to Eureka.

About 10 yards from these ruins is a stone marker carved with ā€œ18 M to Pā€™, which probably indicates 18 miles to Philadelphia from that point on Governor Rd. It may be an early mail delivery marker.

This barn is an example of a bank barn where the barn is actually built into a hillside or bank so that there is access to both the lower and upper levels. It is located on Governor Road which was the main road into Graeme Park.

This barn appears on a drawing from 1737 found with documents requesting that Governor Road be expanded from Horsham to Eureka. (this map is currently either in the collection at Graeme Park or with the PHMC)
